United Nations Committee Meeting Ends, 3 Names Withdrawn On Terrorists ListFriday, December 19, 2008  United Nations held meeting of its Security Council’s Taliban and Al-Qaeda committee here on Thursday. The meeting was held to ponder on the inclusion of more terrorists on its terrorist list however, no new name was included in the list, sources reported from New York, while three names, from the list, have been withdrawn including two Belgium citizens and one from Italy, sources said.
Indian members of committee tried to influence the other members to bring Mumbai fallout under discussion nonetheless; committee ended its session without paying heed to Mumbai issue. During the meeting, Pakistan raised the issue that Haji Muhammad Ashraf, whose name was recently included on the list, had died long ago but the committee suspended the issue for further investigation. Earlier, The Taliban and Al Qaeda committee of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) was mulling over a proposal to put more Pakistanis on the international terror list.
The News quoted senior diplomatic sources, as saying that a country friendly to Pakistan was helping it to prevent this proposal from going through. It said that senior diplomats were trying to stop the inclusion of names of more Pakistanis into terror list. The Taliban and Al Qaeda Committee of UNSC is a private body which could not take into confidence any country or person regarding its meeting.
