S Sreesanth is Sorry

The slaps on the pitch may resonate louder than his howzzat! and his emotional antics may be the talking point after every match, but then S Sreesanthone can’t deny the fact that S Sreesanth has often been one of the architects in Team India’s success. So what if he has often been dubbed “eccentric” by some of the commentators? Today, he has a host of things to boast of, even off the pitch. A poll conducted by a global animal rights organisation has voted Sreesanth the sexiest vegetarian along with Kareena Kapoor. The pacer says, “Being vegetarian is sexy. I guess some sacrifice is good for everyone. I’m also a lot fitter and have lost 10 kg. I used to weigh 87 kg earlier. I’ve become leaner and stronger. Boiled vegetables give me a lot of energy.”
And energy is what he’ll be needing as he practises for the second season of the IPL, scheduled to begin from April. He may have missed the bus for the New Zealand series, but Sreesanth has moved on, “I’m disappointed. But there are certain things which are beyond my control. I believe in training hard and utilising my time well. The conditions would have suited me in New Zealand. In fact, I was getting ready for the tour by watching videos of the New Zealand matches. When the team was announced, I was shooting for a cola commercial with fellow cricketers,” he says. But he is quick to add, “I don’t want sympathy. I want to serve my country. But as they say, Dane dane pe likha hota hai khane wale ka naam. I wish my team all the best.”
The Team India player, who was part of the dance reality show, Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, talks about his love for dance, “Music and dance have been a part of me since childhood. I also write poems, apart from sketching scenes that I witness outside my balcony. I had also sketched a portrait of Sir Dennis Lillee, and he even signed it for me.” Talking of IPL 2, Sreesanth also plans to come out with his music album just before the tournament. “I am planning to make Kailash Kher sing for it. I also plan to shoot two videos for it,” he informs. When we ask him who will star in his videos, he says, “Ideally, it should be cricketers, but since they are busy, we might get some actors.”
The cricketer has also been in the news for his Bollywood link-ups. “Any girl who is seen with me publicly is labelled my girlfriend. It’s not funny. Earlier, I used to worry about my parents, but now I have stopped thinking,” he says. As a footnote, Sreesanth adds, “I’m single and am not seeing anyone.” The emotional man that he is, Sreesanth is apologetic about hurting people with his actions. He clarifies, “I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’m not involved directly in any of the cases. In fact, off the field, I’m a mellowed-down and romantic person. I respect my country and won’t do anything to bring disrepute to it. I just want to say I’m sorry, if I have hurt anyone.”
Sree, we love you.
