The much-awaited Kia SP2i SUV is all set to launch globally on June 20, 2019. Less than a month before its official launch, the production-spec model of the SUV has been spotted fully undisguised during a TV commercial shoot abroad.
The images surfaced online gives major details of the upcoming SUV including its official name for the International markets. The SUV is expected to launch with two powertrains: 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that will be BS-VI ready. The Kia SP2i once launched will compete in the market with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur, Tata Harrier and the upcoming MG Hector.
As we can see from the spy images, the Kia SUV seen on the commercial shoot supports the name “Seltos” though, the brand may launch it in India with a different name. According to the reports, Kia will be launching the SUV as Kia Trailster that will feature the region-specific specs. The upcoming SUV is expected to be priced between INR 11-16 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Coming to the design, the production specific version of Kia SP2i remains identical to the SP Signature concept that was initially unveiled at 2019 Seoul Motor Show. Both the SUVs have identical dual tone alloy wheels design though, the Kia SP2i SUV features bigger ORVMs and 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in the 225/45-section Kumho tyres while the Signature concept used 18-inch alloy wheels.
The SUV features all-LED headlights that are accompanied by LED light bar placed directly in the “Tiger Nose” style front grille. In comparison to the concept, the tail-lights have been redesigned a bit while the SUV features chrome finished window lines as well as chrome strip at the A-pillar. The Kia SP2i features a contrast roof design and gets distinguished roof rails. The T-GDi and 4WD badges seen on the production-spec Kia Seltos specify that the SUV will be available with a turbo petrol engine in some markets.
The spy images also suggest the interior to feature black and brown colour combination for the upholstery while the SUV will be loaded with premium class features including a touchscreen infotainment system, in-car Wi-Fi, 360-degree camera and more. The official sketch image of the interior also suggests that the SUV will get a drive mode selector that will feature “Offroad” badging on top, justifying that SP2i will have off-road capabilities.
According to the reports, the brand is also working on a sportier version of the SUV that will feature 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine capable of churning out a maximum power of 140HP while being mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
