Tata to Set Up 300 Electric Vehicle Fast-Charging Stations in India

The Indian electric utility company Tata Power has decided to work in collaboration with the automotive manufacturing company Tata Motors in order to set up 300 EV fast-charging stations in the country. The fast-charging stations will be installed in five cities which are Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad by the end of the fiscal year. The company has already started the initiative by inaugurating a total of seven charging stations in Pune on August 2nd, 2019 to enable the e-mobility drive.

In the coming two months, the collab plans to install 45 new charging stations that will be opened across the other four cities. These chargers will be installed at the Tata Motors dealerships, at the Tata Motors retail outlets in addition to other public locations.

The Managing Director and CEO of Tata Power said in an interview – “Our aim is to make EV charging as fast and easy as possible for all the Indians and we are very pleased to partner with Tata Motors, with whom we jointly identified high priority locations which could be preferred by the potential electric vehicle owners”.

The Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors in a recent interview said that – “We remain committed to the sustainable mobility mission and will continue to work towards bringing aspirational e-mobility solutions for the customers, leading the drive towards faster adoption of electric vehicles in the country,” adding to which he said that the collaboration is a huge milestone in the company’s venture to initiate environment solutions and to offer peace of mind to their loyal customers.

The chargers will work under the supervision of Tata Power and will adhere to Bharat Standard (15kW) for the initial 50 chargers. In the future ventures of the collaboration, the company plans to have charging stations of 30-50kW DC CCS2 Standard.
