The 2020 Yamaha Ray ZR 125 with a BS6-compliant fuel-injected engine has been recently revealed by the brand. The scooter was showcased at the same event where the 2020 Fascino 125 and the BS6 MT-15 made their official debut. The price tag of the Ray ZR 125 will be revealed at the time of official launch in January 2020.
In addition to the standard variant of the Ray ZR 125, the brand has also taken the wraps off the Ray ZR 125 Street Rally edition. Apart from mechanically updating the engine according to the upcoming BS6 emission norms, the 2020 Ray ZR variants have been equipped with a host of cosmetic updates as well as new colour additions.
The brand has equipped both the variants of the scooter with an all-new digital instrument console in addition to a quiet engine start/stop system. The rear tyre of the scooter has also been revised and now measures 110mm. The Ray ZR Street Rally variant has been unveiled in two new colour variants namely Deep Purplish Blue Metallic and Sparkle Green.
Powering the 2020 Yamaha Ray ZR 125 variants is a BS6-compliant 125cc air-cooled engine that is capable to generate a maximum power of 8.2HP and a peak torque of 9.7Nm. The engine is mated to a CVT transmission. The brand has claimed the fuel efficiency of the scooter variants to be improved by a total of 16% and it now stands around 58kmpl.
Comparing the power and torque figures of the updated scooter with the 7.2HP and 8.1Nm offered by the BS4 113cc engine, one can witness a huge bump in the performance by 30%. Once launched in India, the 2020 Yamaha Ray ZR standard variant and Street Rally variant will compete in the market with the likes of Aprilia Storm 125 which is expected to be updated with a BS6-compliant engine in the coming days.
