MG Motor has officially showcased its India-spec flagship SUV at the Auto Expo 2020 that will rival the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner. Christened as Gloster, the full-size SUV is a 7-seater vehicle and is based on the Maxus D90, which is sold by another brand under SAIC Motor Corporation.
The large SUV by MG Motor comes in a pack with a lot of comfort and convenience features like a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, three-zone climate control system, an eight-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera and electrically-adjustable front seats with heating, cooling and massage function.
Though the final spec sheet for the Gloster SUV is yet-to-be-announced, the massive exterior design ensures a large cabin which will provide lots of room in all three rows. The dimensions of the upcoming SUV reveals that it is pretty big in size. It measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width, and 1,875mm in height. The wheelbase of the car is 2,950mm.
Mechanically, the MG Gloster is expected to be offered with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that will produce 218HP of maximum power along with a 480Nm of peak torque. The engine will further come mated to a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox while the power will be sent to all four wheels.
We can expect the new product by MG Motor to be priced between INR 35-40 lakhs (ex-showroom) because Gloster SUV will be assembled in India with a low amount of localization. MG’s Hector has proved to be a big success for the brand that drastically impacted the mid-size SUV segment and now things seem to be more spiced up once Gloster will be there to compete in the premium SUV segment.
