According to the latest buzz, the Toyota Supra sports car is being evaluated by the brand for a possible India launch by the end of this fiscal year. Toyota is currently dominating the MPV and SUV segment with the Innova and Fortuner while the addition of a sports car would be much appreciated by the audience.
Toyota Supra is the sports car that has been a part of the brand’s race car division while it will be imported to India via the CBU route. The sports car has been officially christened as Gazoo Racing or GR Supra and is based on a similar platform as seen on the other racing cars in the brand’s division such as GR-Four. The Supra nametag made its comeback after 17 years back in 2019 at the Detroit Motor Show while carrying on a legacy of more than 50 years from its equally appealing predecessors.
The retro sports car design with sweeping headlight units at the front imparts it a futuristic outlook while the addition of gaping air intakes mated to the front grille on the open chin bumper adds on to its appeal. The spoiler integrates neatly with the rear bumper which offers a close resemblance to the Supra Mk4 while the unique LED tail lamps further offer it a modish appeal.
The driver-focused Toyota Supra sports car has been equipped with major premium bits inside the cabin which includes the likes of premium leather seats, robust 6.5-inch infotainment screen that can be controlled via the rotary knob positioned below the gear knob.
Powering the Toyota Supra is a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, twin-scroll, turbocharged engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 335 Bhp and a peak torque of 495 Nm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed transmission while the sports car is capable of accelerating from 0-100kmph in just 4.1 seconds.
The top speed of the sports car stands at 250 kmph while the equal 50:50 weight distribution offers better aerodynamics. If and when launched in India, the Toyota Supra will be priced around INR 85 lakh to INR 95 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be considered as the brand’s flagship product.
