A remarkable feat for Modi’s Make-in-India campaign, Maruti’s Baleno hatchback, completely manufactured in India, will now be exported to Japan, and over 100 other countries. The car which is manufactured at Maruti’s Manesar facility in Haryana has sold over 38000 units since its launch in October, 2015.
The Baleno, which is the first Maruti Suzuki car to be exported to Japan will be available in two petrol variants. The first one being a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged Booster Jet engine producing 110 BHP at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 160 Nm between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm. The second rig will be a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder Dual Jet engine capable of making 90 BHP of power at 6,000 rpm and 118 Nm of a maximum torque at 4,400 rpm.
Sujan R Chinoy, Ambassador of India to Japan feels assured of Baleno’s success in Japan, and has said: “The model being launched today, the Baleno is a state-of-the-art car developed and manufactured in India through Suzuki’s excellence. It will be exported to 100 global markets including Japan. I am confident that the Baleno will prove to be a huge success in Japan.”
