After being spotted in a dealership and its spy shot being circulated on the internet, who would have guessed that Toyota would surprise everyone by launching the GR-S AT trim just like that? Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has released the GR Sport 4×4 in the Indian market and it is reaching various dealerships and sits above the Legender 4×4 AT.
The Fortuner GR Sport hosts a few visual enhancements compared to the standard version. The front fascia has a new piano black-finished grille and inserts, new fog lamp bezels, a new front and rear bumper, and a similar spoiler to the Legender. They have characterised the front bumper with the GR Sport badge mounted on the lower section.
The body-coloured trim runs through the LED taillights, sporty red brake callipers, new black-painted alloy wheels, GR ornamented front seats, GR badge on the trunk lid and fenders, and GR logo on the start/stop push button system.
The GR-S is equipped with a 2.8L 4-cylinder GD series turbocharged diesel engine, putting out 204 HP of maximum power and 500 Nm of peak torque. Combined with a 6-speed torque converter, the AT transmission is said to utilise brake and accelerator pedals with different suspension tuning. The GR-S has black leather seats with red contrast stitching and a GR logo on the multi-functional steering wheel.
The 8-inch infotainment touchscreen system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible, powered liftgate, GR combination meter, JBL audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control system, 7 airbags, ESC, traction control, adjustable headrest, front armrest are some of the features it houses.
The Toyota Fortuner GR Sport is available in two colour options; Attitude Black and White Pearl Crystal. Toyota has the GR Sport priced at Rs 48.43 lakh, topping the Fortuner 4×4 range. It will rival the MG Gloster and Mahindra Alturas, the only SUVs with body-on-frame construction in this price range, and the upcoming monocoque-based Jeep Meridian SUV.
