New Mahindra Armado Armoured Vehicle Deliveries Commence – Report

Mahindra Defence Systems (MDS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra, has begun deliveries of the Armado to the Indian armed forces. MDS designed and built the Armado, an Armoured Light Specialized Vehicle (ALSV).

The Armado is a modular vehicle that can be upgraded or configured to suit a wide variety of operational roles. It offers ballistic protection up to B7, Stanag Level II, and can be used in counter-terrorist operations, special forces operations, border security, and raids in open or desert terrains.

The Armado is powered by a 3.2-litre, turbocharged, direct-injection diesel engine. This engine produces a max output of 215 hp and 500 Nm of peak torque. A 4-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels. The Armado can accelerate from 0 to 60kph in 12 seconds and has a top speed of more than 120kph. It can carry 1,000kg of payload.

The Armado features Bilstein independent suspension for all four corners and 318/80 R17 tires. The tires can run without air or a puncture for up to 50km. The Armado also has a centralized tire inflation system, and power steering, and can be configured to be either a left-hand drive or a right-hand drive.

The Armado seats six passengers, including the driver, and can be converted to seat up to eight people. It is also equipped with a public address system, GPS, automatic grenade launcher, electric winch, HF/UHF/VHF radio, and a self-cleaning-type exhaust scavenging and air filtration system for extremely dusty climates.

The delivery of the Armado to the Indian armed forces is a significant milestone for MDS. The vehicle is a testament to the company’s expertise in the design and development of armoured vehicles. The Armado is a versatile and capable vehicle that will be a valuable asset to the Indian armed forces.
