Volvo C40 Recharge Showcased In India Ahead Of August Launch

The C40 Recharge coupe-SUV, which is Volvo’s second all-electric vehicle after the XC40 Recharge SUV that premiered last year, was introduced today in India. The business also disclosed that the C40 Recharge will go on sale in August, with online reservations opening up shortly after and delivery starting in September. The C40 Recharge is the SUV’s coupe brother to the XC40 Recharge. The appearance of the Volvo C40 Recharge is completely devoid of leather, and the vehicle’s technical components are identical to those of the XC40 Recharge SUV.

The C40 Recharge shares a lot of similarities with its SUV sister, the XC40 Recharge, with the exception of its back, where the roofline has a coupe-like finish and the rear windscreen is steeply slanted. The result of this was a redesign of the tailgate and taillight arrangement. Here, the rear lamps are significantly more slender, have a wider wraparound effect, and receive new reverse lights. In contrast to the XC40 Recharge’s continuous strip of LED lighting, this vehicle’s LED lighting is fragmented near the top, beside the windshield. The LEDs on the C40 Recharge also extend into the tailgate, unlike the SUV, and the whole design gives the vehicle’s rear a significantly larger stance.

At the rear, the roofline of the C40 swoops down rather sharply.

Additionally, a new two-part spoiler has been added, one on the roof with a distinctive twin-pod design to increase aerodynamics and the other on the boot lid that is blacked out. The C40 Recharge’s rear design also seems much busier and sportier than the XC40 Recharge’s, despite the fact that the SUV’s bumper is unaltered. As a result of the roofline’s slope, the window line has also been somewhat modified. Pixel LED headlights, which are currently unavailable in any other Volvo in India, are also only available on the C40 Recharge.

The front bumper, hood, contouring on the doors, and dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels are the only exterior features shared by the C40 Recharge and its SUV sibling. The headlamps feature Thor’s hammer LED Daytime Running Lamps.

Interior and features of the Volvo C40 Recharge

Inside, the dashboard is designed in the classic Volvo style and is, unexpectedly, the same as the XC40 Recharge. The rest of the inside features a fully digital instrument cluster, wood inlays on the dashboard, and a 9.0-inch portrait-style touchscreen flanked by thin AC vents. The materials fit and finish are still of the high caliber you would expect from a Volvo.

The XC40 Recharge shares the same interior styling and set of features.

The C40 Recharge is equipped with an Android-based infotainment system that offers direct access to Google Maps and Assistant as well as a number of PlayStore apps through an onboard e-SIM. Additionally, it comes with a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, 360-degree camera, a full suite of sensor-based ADAS technology with autonomous driving, connected car technology, powered front seats with driver-side memory function, heating and cooling, dual-zone climate control, and high-end Harman Kardon sound system.

The inside of the C40 Recharge has leather-free upholstery.

Although the 31-liter trunk space has not altered, the C40 Recharge’s boot size has decreased from the SUV’s 452 liters to 413 liters. The sloping roofline will also have reduced the headroom in the back seats. Notably, Volvo asserts that the interior of the C40 is entirely free of leather, in keeping with the brand’s goal to do away with leather from all of its electric cars by 2025 in order to lessen animal suffering and carbon emissions.

Volvo C40 Recharge powertrain and specs

The XC40 Recharge’s foundation and powertrain arrangement are also carried over. The C40 Recharge in India, which is based on the CMA platform (Compact Modular Architecture), has a dual-motor setup with a 78kWh battery pack for a stated range of 530km on a single charge according to the WLTP cycle. It’s interesting to note that, owing to a newer generation battery and improved aerodynamics, the range has increased significantly over the SUV’s advertised 418km range.

It has two electric motors that work in tandem to provide 660Nm of torque and 408 horsepower, giving it all-wheel drive. In comparison to the XC40 Recharge, Volvo claims to be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 4.7 seconds. A 150kW DC charger that can top off the batteries in the C40 Recharge from zero to 100 percent in 27 minutes has quick charging capabilities.

Competitors of the Volvo C40 Recharge

The C40 Recharge will face competition from the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 when it debuts. The C40 will be domestically produced, just like its SUV sister, but it’s anticipated to cost somewhat more than the XC40 Recharge, which, for comparison, is presently priced at Rs 56.90 lakh, ex-showroom. Although there aren’t any electric coupe-SUVs in this price range, there are a few ICE coupe-SUVs like the Audi Q3 Sportback and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe that are offered for a comparable cost.

Some advantages of Volvo Recharge C40:-

Silence Operation: The trip is more peaceful and enjoyable because of the silent operation of the electric car, which reduces noise pollution.

Low Maintenance: Since electric cars like the C40 have fewer moving parts than cars powered by gasoline, they require less maintenance and are less expensive to maintain.

Minimal Gear Shifting: This type of car makes riding more convenient, especially in stop-and-go city traffic, by eliminating the need for manual gear shifting.

Reduced heat emissions:  Since they generate less heat than gasoline engines do, electric cars make driving more pleasant and cool.

No Vibration: When opposed to internal combustion engines, electric cars produce less vibration.

Some Disadvantages of Volvo Recharge C40:-

Charge Period: While rapid charging is an option, it can take longer to fully charge the battery than it would to refuel a conventional gasoline car.

Limited Customization: Some riders might miss the option to customize the car’s engine sound or exhaust note, which is a characteristic feature of gasoline-powered vehicles.

Distance Unreliability: The actual range of electric cars may differ depending on a number of variables, including riding technique, topography, and weather.

Only Short-Distance Travel:  Due to their limited range, electric cars like the Volvo Recharge C40 may not be the best choice for riders who frequently travel large distances.

Dependence on Charging Station Location: The need to find charging outlets might cause reliance in areas with few options for charging infrastructure.

Electric cars may provide long-term savings, but the initial cost may be larger, necessitating riders to think about their whole financial situation.

The C40 Recharge has been introduced with excitement, but its true success relies on market performance. It is long-term prospects will be impacted by variables like price, availability, and rivalry with other electric vehicles. We must wait and see how it performs!
