Tata Punch EV Spotted with an Upgraded 10.25-inch Touchscreen Infotainment System

Tata Motors is getting ready to introduce its next electric vehicle (EV) with the Tata Punch EV being the main attraction. Recently, the car was observed going through testing giving us a first look at some of its features and architectural components. Expected to be available in two variants, Standard and Long Range the Tata Punch EV is poised to make a significant entry into the electric micro-SUV segment.

Design and Interiors

The spy images of the Tata Punch EV showcase several noteworthy updates and the exterior reveals a redesigned grille and distinctive elements setting it apart from its internal combustion engine-powered counterpart. Inside the cabin, the most noticeable change is the presence of a sizable 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This unit is likely borrowed from the Nexon contributing to a more modern and tech-savvy interior.

Another interior feature that caught attention is the two-spoke steering wheel adorned with the illuminated Tata logo and the interior of the car is made more elegant by this design decision. A rotary drive selector with an integrated display that improves the driving experience overall has also been alluded to in prior spy photos.

Advanced Features

Tata Motors seems committed to providing advanced features in the Punch EV. A semi-digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree video for improved visibility, automated climate management for increased comfort, and up to six airbags for increased safety are some of the features that are planned. Electronic stability control (ESC) and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) are also expected to be part of the comprehensive features list.

The commitment to safety is further underscored by the recent sightings of the Punch EV undergoing Bharat NCAP crash tests with six airbags emphasizing Tata’s dedication to meeting stringent safety standards.

Powertrain and Battery

While official details about the powertrain and battery specifications are yet to be disclosed, industry observers speculate that Tata could adopt a strategy similar to the Nexon EV. This would involve offering the Punch EV with two battery sizes catering to different driving preferences and ranges. Positioned between the Tigor EV and Nexon EV the base option might align with the characteristics of the sedan while the long-range variant could feature the Nexon EV’s base powertrain providing a balance between performance and efficiency.

Market Competition and Launch

The Tata Punch EV is poised to enter a competitive market, going head-to-head with electric counterparts like the Citroen eC3, MG Comet EV, and even its sibling, the Tata Tiago EV. The pricing strategy is crucial in this competitive landscape, and Tata is expected to position the Punch EV with a starting price of around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).

The launch of the Tata Punch EV is highly anticipated, and enthusiasts are looking forward to its debut in the first half of 2024. As Tata Motors continues to lead the electric vehicle revolution the Punch EV represents a major advancement in providing customers with cutting-edge and environmentally friendly mobility options.
