BMW CE 02 E-Scooter Set to Launch in India This Year

International Debut and Production in India

Last year, BMW generated significant excitement in the electric vehicle market by unveiling the CE 02 electric scooter and this innovative electric two-wheeler quickly made its way to international markets including the UK and USA. What added to the intrigue was the revelation that the CE 02 platform wasn’t just a concept but was developed and produced in India, thanks to BMW’s collaboration with its local partner, TVS.

Anticipation for Indian Launch

Building on the global success of the CE 02, the electric scooter is now poised to hit the Indian market later this year. However, prospective buyers should temper expectations, as the CE 02 is not positioned as an affordable, basic electric scooter for city commuting – a category often associated with entry-level electric vehicles.

Premium Positioning and Price Points

In the USA, the base model of the CE 02 is priced at USD 7,599 (approximately Rs 6.2 lakh), with the Highline trim commanding USD 8,474 (roughly Rs 7 lakh). Despite being manufactured in India, the CE 02 is expected to be a premium offering, potentially exceeding the pricing range of the Rs 2.49 lakh TVS X. Speculations are rife that it might even claim the title of the most expensive electric two-wheeler available in the Indian market, although this remains unconfirmed.

BMW’s Legacy of Premium Scooters in India

BMW has a track record of introducing high-end scooters in the Indian market, exemplified by the C 400 GT maxi-scooter. The C 400 GT currently holds the title of the most expensive scooter in the country with a price of Rs 11.25 lakh. While the CE-02 is expected to be more accessible than the C 400 GT, it is likely to carry a premium price due to its advanced features and cutting-edge technology.

Unique Design and Performance Features

The CE 02 stands out as a distinctive offering falling somewhere between the traditional electric bike and electric scooter categories. Noteworthy design elements include the absence of a floorboard section, replaced by motorcycle-like footpegs. Powering the CE 02 are two split lithium-ion battery packs with a combined capacity of 2kWh, offering a claimed range of 90km. In its most powerful configuration, the CE 02 boasts 15hp, enabling a claimed top speed of 95kph. Weighing in at 132kg, the CE 02 promises a dynamic and efficient electric riding experience.

Eager Anticipation for Launch

As the anticipation for its launch in India grows, enthusiasts eagerly await further details on pricing and specifications, eager to experience BMW’s innovative electric offering in the Indian market.
