At the recent Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, Tata showcased its SUV-crossover, the Curvv, in a close-to-production avatar. It was also the first time that we got confirmation that the Tata Curvv will get the choice of a diesel powertrain as well. Here are the details of internal combustion engine (ICE) Curvv’s powertrain options we know so far.
As anticipation continues to build for the upcoming launch of the Tata Curvv, Tata Motors has unveiled details regarding the powertrain options that will be available for this highly anticipated electric SUV. With a focus on performance, efficiency, and sustainability, the Tata Curvv promises to deliver a driving experience that is both exhilarating and environmentally conscious. Let’s delve into the specifics of the engine options revealed for the Tata Curvv and explore what sets them apart in the competitive electric vehicle (EV) market.
Introduction to the Tata Curvv
The Tata Curvv represents a bold step forward for Tata Motors in the realm of electric mobility. With its striking design, advanced technology features, and commitment to sustainability, the Curvv aims to set new benchmarks in the electric SUV segment. Built on Tata Motors’ dedicated electric vehicle platform, the Curvv promises to deliver impressive performance, spacious interiors, and long-range capabilities, making it an attractive option for eco-conscious consumers and adventure seekers alike.
Electric Powertrains: Driving Towards a Greener Future
Initially, when the Curvv ICE concept made its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo, Tata showcased it with a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. This new direct injection unit is rated at 125 PS and 225 Nm, more than the current turbo-petrol’s output of 120 PS and 170 Nm. It will be offered with both manual and dual-clutch automatic transmission options.
With the 2024 Curvv’s showcase at the Bharat Mobility Expo, Tata presented us with details of its diesel engine as well. It features the familiar 1.5-litre diesel unit that generates 115 PS and 260 Nm. While Tata has mentioned that it will be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, it is expected that it will also be available with an automatic option as well, hopefully not the usual AMT.
Performance and Range: Finding the Right Balance
One of the key considerations for prospective buyers of electric vehicles is the balance between performance and range. With the Tata Curvv, Tata Motors aims to strike the perfect equilibrium, offering powertrain options that deliver impressive acceleration and responsiveness without compromising on range or efficiency. Whether navigating urban streets or embarking on long-distance journeys, drivers can expect a smooth and seamless driving experience behind the wheel of the Curvv.
Dual-Motor Setup: The Ultimate in Performance and Control
For drivers seeking exhilarating performance and dynamic handling, Tata Motors will offer a dual-motor setup option for the Tata Curvv. This configuration will feature two electric motors – one powering the front wheels and the other powering the rear wheels – resulting in all-wheel drive capability and enhanced traction in various driving conditions. With instant torque delivery and precise control, the dual-motor Curvv promises to deliver a thrilling driving experience that rivals that of traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.
Single-Motor Configuration: Efficiency Meets Practicality
For drivers prioritizing efficiency and practicality, Tata Motors will also offer a single-motor configuration for the Tata Curvv. This setup will feature a single electric motor powering either the front or rear wheels, providing ample acceleration and range for everyday driving needs. With its streamlined design and optimized performance characteristics, the single-motor Curvv offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly transportation solution for urban commuters and families alike.
Battery Options: Flexibility and Customization
In addition to the choice of electric motor configuration, Tata Motors will offer multiple battery options for the Tata Curvv, allowing drivers to customize their driving experience based on their range requirements and budget constraints. Whether opting for a standard-range battery for urban commuting or a long-range battery for extended road trips, drivers can rest assured knowing that the Curvv offers flexibility and versatility to meet their individual needs.
Conclusion: Shaping the Future of Electric Mobility
There will also be an all-electric Tata Curvv EV, expected to arrive before the petrol and diesel versions. Its specifications are yet to be revealed but we know it will be based on the Acti.EV platform with an expected range of over 500 km.
It is expected that the Tata Curvv ICE will launch by the end of 2024, with an expected starting price of around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, it will be an SUV-coupe alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate, and Skoda Kushaq.
