The world’s second-largest motor show – Auto Expo, which used to be a major attraction for many brands is slowly losing its influence on the auto industry. According to recent updates, some of the major carmakers have decided to skip the Auto Expo 2020, which is scheduled to start from February 7 and will last till February 12.
Car brands like Honda, BMW, Ford, Jeep, Audi, and Toyota are likely to bunk the event. This doesn’t mean that the event will be completely deserted as brands like Mercedes-Benz, VW, Skoda and newcomers like Kia Motors, MG Motor, and Great Wall Motors are expected to grace the event.
About not willing to attend the event, the managing director of BMW India, Rudratej Singh said in an interview that they have already launched their major products and thus do not have any major offerings to showcase at Auto Expo 2020. He said, “Our focus is more on targeted marketing and using our money more appropriately to ensure product launches are executed well.” He added to his statement, “It’s not to say that we are not going to look at the Auto Expo again. With the right products and timing, we may come back.”
Honda Cars India spokesperson also responded on being asked about not attending the event about which they explained that the company’s release schedule is not in sync with Auto Expo. He said, “In keeping with our prioritised objectives, we have decided after much deliberation to skip the upcoming Auto Expo.”
The reason behind the muffled ardour is the auto slump from which even the mega auto event also couldn’t go untouched. Apart from that, the shift to BS-VI norms and the high cost of participation have also compelled the brands to withdraw from the Auto Expo 2020.
