Aprilia has been a well known name when it comes to performance and pure riding pleasure. The nameplate has a lot of reputation attached to itself. SR 150 is a one of its kind, made for India product with a classy design and a much more relaxed price tag than anything around its price. Aprilia SR 150 is also available in Race Edition, which comes with slightly better throttle response and initial acceleration. Aprilia recently also launched the SR 125 in India with an ex-showroom price tag of 67,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).
The best ever price tag for an Aprilia product, the SR 150 comes with a price tag of Rs 71,500 (ex-showroom). At this price tag, it is not even possible to buy a 150 cc motorcycle which is as premium as this new product. The scooter competes against none currently while stands proud when it comes to flagship performance in the segment.
The 154.4 cc, air cooled motor on the Aprilia SR 150 is good for 10.4 BHP at 6750 rpm and 11.4 Nm @ 5000 rpm. It comes mated to an automatic gearbox, providing the ease of riding without gear changing hassles. The scooter can cross 100 kmph with ease while staying at triple digit speeds seems tough on most Indian roads. The low kerb weight of just 122 kgs add more fun to the SR 150.
The SR 150 is built on a different frame in comparison to the Vespa 150. The new steel frame is good as it provides a good amount of comfort and stability to the rider as well as pillion. The front uses a 32 mm telescopic forks while the rear has a single arm shock absorber. The setup is a bit on the stiffer side, providing ultimate control over the vehicle.
Aprilia has provided the SR 150 with the largest 14 inch alloy wheels in its class. The 5-spoke, beautifully finished Black alloy wheels have 120/70 section tyres wrapped to them. This again is not being offered in even bikes which are INR 10,000 more expensive than the SR150. They offer excellent grip while providing more confidence on the corners and highway.
There is no doubt that SR 150 comes with excellent specs. The front 220 mm disc brake on the scooter breaks speeds without any hesitation, helping the powerful SR 150 achieve a better braking distance than most scooters. The rear brake is a 140 mm drum unit, larger than most 110 mm units on Indian scooters.
