Aprilia RS 250 SP small-displacement racing machine was unveiled by the brand at the EICMA auto show back in November 2019. Now the brand has officially revealed the price tag of the race bike which stands at €9,700 (INR 7.98 lakh, approximate).
The motorcycle has been specifically developed by the brand in collaboration with Ohvale, the Italian manufacturer of mini race bikes. Featuring all the traits of a racing machine, the RS 250 SP is an Ohvale look alike. The all-new motorcycle from Aprilia will participate in the Italian FMI Aprilia Sport Production Championship later this year, which will be a six-race affair.
Commenting on the unveiling of the racing machine, Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing stated – “The new championship takes up a tradition that makes Aprilia unique, a brand that has taken generations of young people onto the track and that has raised great champions,”
“From 2020, thanks to the partnership with the Federation, we will once again be providing fun for young people who, in this championship, will find a way to make their dreams come true and perhaps, this is our wish, the start of a path in the world of competitive motorcycling.”
“This is why we have designed an easy bike and formula that will attract the highest number of young people to competitive motorcycling.”
Being christened as the ideal racing motorcycle for the younger audience, the Aprilia RS 250 SP is one of the cheapest racing bikes suitable for youth and for competing in the championships. The brand has equipped the motorcycle with premium components such as brakes with Brembo callipers, Ohlins suspension, loud exhaust from SC-Project, and 17-inch Marchesini wheels with Pirelli tyres. The Aprilia RS 250 SP racing motorcycle has been equipped with an Aprilia-based engine though, all the production units will be manufactured by Ohvale.
Though targeted for youth, the Aprilia RS 250 SP is highly unlikely to be available in India, being a track-only race bike. As per the reports, the Indian market will be graced with Aprilia GPR 250, which has been recently launched in China.
Powering the India-bound GPR 250 is a 249.2cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that is capable to generate a maximum power of 26.5HP @ 9000 rpm and a peak torque of 22Nm @ 7500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The Aprilia GPR 250 is expected to get an ex-showroom price tag of around INR 2.20 lakh.
