BS6 Aprilia SR150 was recently spotted doing test rounds on the Indian roads. Aprilia has an influential design language for this scooter and keeping the same intact for the 2020 version is a good move. However, the test mule seen here supports the Storm paint scheme and carries the BS6 160 slip on the front body. The scooter comes with an attached windscreen and different set of tires in comparison to the present generation model of SR150. The visor can be an optional feature while tires may be switched from the Vee Rubber to MRF on the upcoming BS6 version.
The manufacturers have approximately one year to convert all the possible engines that they wish to keep on sale into the BS6-compliant versions of themselves as orders from the authorities have clearly mentioned that no extension would be given to any segment of vehicles at any cost. Aprilia has already introduced CBS for under 125cc and ABS for above 125cc scooters in the Indian lineup. The 154.8cc, single cylinder engine on the BS4-compliant SR150 is good for 10.06 HP and 10.90 Nm. The engine comes mated to an automatic gearbox. The BS6-compliant version is expected to use fuel injection and thus, the difference in cost will definitely arrive.
The weight may increase with the use of new parts in the engine and exhaust system, both playing an important role in the reduction of emissions from the scooter. The top speed of 104 kph may improve while mileage will definitely go up with lesser than ever wastage of fuel from the SR150. The Storm variant’s body may only be here as a disguise for the upcoming scooter as updating certain bits like the handlebar section will help Aprilia get an even better user base. The current generation SR series is available in standard, 125cc and Race variant in the country.
