Auto Industry Slowdown (Motorcycles and Scooters): The condition of the two-wheeler market is not good from the past few months and just like the car segment, this segment of the market has also not been spared by the auto industry slowdown. Hero MotoCorp is the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer and the brand sold 5,35,810 units of motorcycles and scooters in July 2019. There is a decline of 19.2% in sales when compared to the sales number posted by Hero MotoCorp in July last year.
The Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) posted a sales figure of 4,55,000 units for July 2019, which constitutes a YoY decline of 10.53%. The company has 26.80% of the share of the two-wheeler market but still, they are trying to revive the sales as per the current market scenario.
TVS Motor registered a sales number of 2,08,489 units for July 2019, which is down by 15.72% in comparison to the sales figure posted by the brand in July 2018. The TVS motorcycles registered a sales figure of 1,08,210 units, which has declined by 10.88% whereas the scooter sales stand at 1,05,199 units and it is down by 11.60% as compared to July 2018.
Bajaj Auto’s sales number is also down by 15.1%, as the brand registered 1,70,978 units last month. In comparison, the company registered 2,01,433 in the same month last year. Even the retro-classic motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield has reported a decline of 26.6% last month, as they posted a sales figure of 49,182 units. In comparison, the brand was good for 67,001 units in July 2018.
Suzuki can take a sigh of relief as it clocked 17.5% growth by selling 62,636 units in July 2019. Mr Devashish Handa, vice-president, Suzuki Motorcycle India said – “July was an exciting month at Suzuki Motorcycle India as we launched new products and variants in both motorcycle and scooter category, further strengthening our product offerings for Indian consumers. We are steering ahead with full throttle to add more customers to the Suzuki family.”
