Bajaj-KTM Electric 2-Wheeler Reportedly in the Making

Bajaj-KTM Electric 2-Wheeler in the Works: Recently in an interview with the Economic Times, the company's executive director, Rakesh Sharma said - “We are developing prototypes across the bay, however, what will come out first is a question that we will be addressing very shortly. But it should happen this year. We are quite keen on electric. It is an important development for the future and to prepare and learn from this development as it unfolds.” [caption id="attachment_507546" align="aligncenter" width="2000"]KTM E-Speed KTM E-Speed Image Used for Representational Purpose[/caption] He also said that the company is planning to bring its first electric vehicle in the current fiscal (April 2019 - March 2020). Bajaj-KTM is all set to develop a common 48-volt electric two-wheeler platform that will be used by both the brands. The platform will support various product types like scooters, mopeds, and small mopeds. Also, the products will be manufactured in India. The production for the same will commence in Pune in the year 2022. KTM already sells electric powered two-wheelers in some of the select international markets. One of the products is known as KTM E-ride. This electric bike produces a peak power output of 18kW, which is much more than the electric two-wheelers that are going to be manufactured in India. Bajaj is getting ready if the government mandates the sale of only electric two-wheelers in the coming 5-7 years. Also, it is expected that the company is expected to bring back its iconic brand names like Chetak, Legend, and Stride that will arrive under the Urbanite brand. The upcoming scooter by Bajaj will come in a pack with retro styling that will be accompanied by modern features. It will come with advanced features which are most likely to include an LED headlight and tail lamp, an all-digital instrument console, and an under-seat USB Charger.
