Bajaj has finally launched the Avenger Street 160 at INR 82,253 (ex-showroom Delhi). The bike features single-channel ABS and has replaced the Avenger 180 which was approximately INR 6000 costly than the newly launched Street 160. The cruiser motorcycle is available in two colours: Spicy Red and Ebony Black.
Bajaj Avenger Street 160 is powered by a 160.4cc single cylinder, air-cooled motor and it is able to produce an output which is comparable to the power and torque figures of Avenger 180. It is because it uses the same engine that is available on the Pulsar NS160. The engine produces 15 HP of power at 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 13.5 Nm at 7000 rpm.
Apart from the new engine, everything on the bike remains the same as the 180cc Avenger. It uses the same chassis setup with the same dimensions. Even the ground clearance of the Avenger Street 160 remains the same at 177mm. The kerb weight of the bike stands at 150kg, which is also exactly the same as the now-discontinued 180cc Avenger model. The bike also misses the all-digital instrumentation as we have seen on the Avenger 220. The Avenger Street 160 uses an analogue-digital instrument console to keep the costs in check.
One of the main reasons that the company has chosen to replace Street 180 with Street 160 is because the 180cc and 220cc motorcycles were too close to each other in terms of price. So, with the launch of the new 160cc Avenger, the brand would be able to target the customers in a better way. This will also help Bajaj Auto to differentiate the two models significantly. Around this price tag, the new Avenger Street 160 has only one direct rival that is the Suzuki Intruder which starts at INR 1.01 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Narayan Sundararaman, Vice President (Marketing) – Motorcycles, Bajaj Auto Ltd said: “As the segment leader, Bajaj Auto believes in the strategy of differentiation and category expansion. Avenger Street 160 with ABS provides contemporary styling whilst retaining its classical roadster design. The discerning customer gets a definite step-up into the world of classic biking. This will open up choices to the entry-level sport’s customers.”
