According to recent reports, Bajaj is working on a smaller version of the Dominar sports tourer and it is expected to launch as Dominar 250. The brand currently owns a major market share in the industry with its very famous Pulsar series as well as the highly cherished Discover range. By launching a lower displacement Dominar, the brand plans on expanding its reach in the premium motorcycle market.
The test mule of the Bajaj Dominar 250 has been recently spotted online and it features thinner tyres when compared to the Dominar 400. In addition to that, the 250cc model gets a cheaper swingarm as well as smaller front and rear disc brakes. The brand has also redesigned the wheels of the motorcycle. Apart from this, in comparison to the Dominar 400, all the other body panels on the motorcycle have been kept the same including the USD forks at the front.
Though there has been no confirmation on the exact displacement of the upcoming Dominar model, one can certainly expect the brand to target the quarter-litre displacement segment which will ultimately fill the gap between the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 and the Dominar 400. The 250cc engine displacement on the motorcycle will make it competitive in the market with the likes of motorcycles from Royal Enfield, Benelli as well as Jawa.
It is further expected that Bajaj will be foraying into the 250cc segment by borrowing the engine from the KTM Duke 250 while equipping the Dominar 250 with cost-effective mechanical bits will certainly help the brand in pricing it aggressively in the Indian market.
The 250cc engine on the Duke 250 is currently capable of offering maximum power of 30HP and a peak torque of 24Nm while it is yet to be seen how the brand will tune the engine on the Bajaj Dominar 250. In terms of pricing, the motorcycle is expected to get an ex-showroom price tag of around INR 1.50-1.60 lakh.
To jog your memory, the premium product from the brand, Dominar 400 is powered by a 373.3cc, 4-valve, DTSi engine that is capable of offering maximum power of 40HP @ 8650 rpm and a peak torque of 35Nm @ 7000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
Bajaj Dominar 400 is currently available in the market at a price tag of INR 1.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The brand is also planning to introduce the BS6-compliant version of the Dominar 400 after the implementation of the new emission norms in April 2020.
