It has been one year since the historic Trans-Siberian Odyssey. The Bajaj Dominar 400 became the first and only Indian motorcycle to traverse across the world’s toughest journey. Now, the best that Bajaj has to offer is out to break its own record. Now the Dominar Polar Odyssey will cover the entire breadth of the North and South America, and length from the Arctic to the Antarctic, commencing the journey from Anchorage to Tuktoyaktuk in the Arctic Circle, all the way down to the End of the World at Ushuaia in Argentina by the Antarctic Circle.
The estimated time to complete the journey has been decided around four months and the total distance that has to be crossed is more than 50,000 kilometres. The journey will take the riders through the borders of 17 different countries in North, Central, and South America. Each day, the riders will be covering more than 450 kilometres of distance without any dedicated service support or backup team.
The journey will take the riders through all kinds of terrain, climate, and conditions. Starting from the ice-packed roads and long-distance highways of Canada, USA, and Mexico, the riders will cross the tropical river beds and dirt tracks of Central America, later going through the Amazon Forest and the River basin in Brazil. The final part of their journey will take them through the gravel tracks of the high altitude passes of the Andean highlands and the Atacama desert, and at last through the open grasslands of the Argentinean Pampas.
The Polar Odyssey will take the riders through four of the world’s toughest roads, namely the Dempster Highway in the Arctic Circle in Canada, the James Dalton Highway in the Arctic Circle in USA, the North Yungas Road (also known as the Road of Death) in Bolivia, and the Atacama Desert in Chile, making it the most unflinching odyssey ever attempted. The challenge is going to be taken up by three passionate riders. The team includes Deepak Kamath who was a part of the Dominar Trans-Siberian Odyssey. Accompanying him are Avinash PS, a mechanical engineer by profession, an avid motorcyclist, and a photographer, and Deepak Gupta, an active member of the Group of Delhi Superbikers.
