Bajaj has officially launched the Platina 110 H-Gear in India, and the motorcycle has already started reaching the showrooms. Rajiv Bajaj recently admitted that though commuter motorcycles don’t make much money for the brand, given the sheer size of the segment, the company cannot afford to neglect it.
The newly-launched Platina 110 H-Gear is significantly an improved version of the existing Platina Comfortec 110. The H-gear stands for ‘Highway Gear’, and according to Bajaj Auto, the fifth gear has been optimised for delivering the right mix of pickup and fuel economy on long-distance highway riding.
Coming to looks, the styling of the bike has not changed much as the new version sports refreshed graphics, has got improved seats with contoured seat cover and 3D Platina lettering on the fuel tank. The alloy wheels remain black-finished like the last-gen model.
Also, the Platina 110 H-Gear sports a newly-designed semi-digital instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer. The backlit digital display offers a gear shift indicator which also warns the rider if the motorcycle is ridden in the wrong gear, plus the console also displays a service reminder, a fuel gauge, an odometer, a digital clock, and a low battery warning indicator.
Unlike the earlier models of Platina with 4-speed transmission, the Bajaj Platina H-Gear 110 is equipped with a 5-speed gearbox which shifts in an all-down pattern. The 115cc DTS-i engine is retained without any changes. It generates the same 8.6 HP of maximum power at 7000 rpm and 9.81 Nm of peak torque at 5000 rpm. Moreover, because of the updated gear ratios, the overall mileage is expected to get marginal improvement.
For braking performance, the bike gets an optional 240mm front disc brake and a 110mm rear drum brake. The motorcycle gets mandatory combi braking system and Bajaj Auto promotes it as Anti-Skid Brake System (ASBS). For suspension duties, the bike gets telescopic forks at front and nitrox charged shock absorbers at the rear end. The tubeless tyres have been retained without any changes on either end.
Talking about the pricing, the bike is available at INR 53,376 for the drum brake option and INR 55,373 for the disc brake variant. The prices mentioned here are ex-showroom. The motorcycle is available in 3 shades: Black/Blue, Black/Burgundy, and Wine Red. The Platina 110 H-Gear will compete against the Honda Dream Yuga, TVS Star City Plus, and the Hero Splendor iSmart Plus in the Indian market.
