Bajaj Urbanite Scooter Spotted Again (New Photos): Bajaj Auto is going to enter the scooter segment after saying that they have no intention of launching scooters, as they are motorcycle makers and would remain focused towards it. Also, they said that in future if they need to launch a scooter then it would be an e-scooter. Now, Bajaj is getting ready to enter the market by launching their new brand called Urbanite and its first product would most probably be an electric scooter.
The most recent spy photos of the scooter have been leaked by Power Drift on their Instagram page. You can see two test mules of the upcoming scooter being tested in Pune. In terms of the design, it looks sleek and features an attractive headlight (probably all-LED). The Urbanite scooter seems to be highly inspired by the retro design theme of the Piaggio Vespa.
Though Bajaj has not confirmed anything about their upcoming scooter, it is expected that it would get modern features which will include an all-digital instrument console and it will probably also get e-SIM embedded connectivity feature, which will allow the users to keep a check on various details about their scooter via a smartphone app.
One of the spy photos of the scooter also reveals that it would feature a DRL tube around the main LED headlight, and we must say that it looks quite interesting. Also, it was being rumoured that at the front the scooter will get a single-sided suspension and by seeing the spied photos clearly one can expect it to be true.
Autocar India recently also posted a photo of the scooter’s rear end. It is not so clear but as we can see, the right side of the scooter is missing a very important component, that is the exhaust, so we can clearly expect that the spy photos are of the Bajaj’s upcoming electric scooter.
Mechanically, the scooter is expected to be powerful enough that one can cruise at a speed of 80 kmph on the highways. It can feature driving modes too like the already available electric scooters in the market by Ather Energy.
Earlier in January this year, Rajiv Bajaj, the Managing Director of Bajaj Autos said that they would also be launching electric 3-wheelers under the same Urbanite brand name. Mr Sumeet Narang will head the Urbanite unit dedicated to electric vehicles in assistance of Mr Amit Nandi, head of Probiking business unit for the financial year 2019.
In the coming years, most of the companies would be shifting their focus towards electric vehicles, the reason being that from the year 2025, the Indian government is planning to ban the sale of sub-150cc bikes and scooters to make way for the electric 2-wheelers.
