Pros and Cons of Bajaj Dominar 400 [Updated Model]

The new Bajaj Dominar 400 is a true flagship motorcycle with class-leading values on all terms. The massive 373.2cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine on Dominar is good for 40HP of maximum power at 8650 rpm while 35Nm of maximum torque is delivered at just 7000 rpm.

At present, the Dominar 400 is priced at INR 1.90 lakh (ex-showroom) for the new model with advanced features and a lot of improvements in comparison to the last-gen model. Here are the pros and cons of having the new Bajaj Dominar as your next big bike.

Bajaj Dominar 400 Pros & Cons

Pros of New Dominar 400

1) Head-Turning Design: Bajaj Dominar has always been a looker and the new model is even better. The profile is inspired by a Lion’s stance and stays true to the same with commanding front half. The fuel tank is well-designed while the wide tyres offer confidence in terms of design as well as everyday use.

2) Good Performance & Mileage: The best part of buying Dominar 400 is its powerful engine and eye-popping performance, taking into consideration that it is being pitched as a sports cruiser. The engine generates 40HP of power and 35Nm of torque within accessible rpm levels, making the Dominar really effective in all kinds of riding conditions.

The motorcycle claims 0-100kmph run in just 7.1secs while the top speed is claimed to be 156kmph though, we expect the new model to easily cross 160kmph. Bajaj has not revealed the mileage officially while one can expect it to return around 30 kmpl of mileage under mixed riding conditions.

3) All-LED Headlight: Bajaj Dominar 400 comes with a full LED headlight. The use of LED light makes it even more effective in low light conditions and facilitate the rider during rough weather. The beam is strong enough to provide hassle-free night riding and uses even less power than the conventional light bulbs. The beam of LED light is crystal clear and helpful in completing long journeys without caring for the day or night.

4) 2-Channel ABS & Slipper Clutch: The motorcycle is equipped with dual-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to avoid the wheels getting locked in case of aggressive braking. Bajaj Dominar is also equipped with a slipper clutch as standard. It helps in quicker downshifts and in avoiding torque loss during gear shifts. The use of modern technology helps the Dominar achieve a special place in the Indian motorcycling industry.

5) High Paint Quality: Dominar 400 comes with three-layer paint coating, providing a rich and exclusive finish. Not just that, it even comes with totally different paint schemes from other Bajaj motorcycles. The motorcycle is offered in Auroral Green and Vine Black shade. Even alloy wheels are finished in black/chrome shade. The Bajaj Dominar feels like a perfect big bike for people who are willing to upgrade from smaller capacity bikes.

6) Informative Instrument Console: Bajaj offers first-in-class split instrument console on the updated model of the Dominar. It carries a standard LCD panel within its handlebar with a dot-matrix display. The reverse-lit unit carries everything from speedometer, tachometer, odometer, clock, trip meter and other values. The second unit is placed on the fuel tank and comes out as equally functional to the given variant. The twin console seems to be inspired by other big bikes from European manufacturers.

7) 43mm Front USD Forks: The updated model of the Dominar 400 is equipped with 43mm USD front forks, which are much bigger than normally offered forks on other bikes around the segment. For a simple comparison, you can see that 43mm forks are offered in litre-class bikes around the world. The suspension on Dominar 400 provides the most stable ride around its price segment. It even comes with a rear multi-step adjustable mono-shock unit.

8) Excellent Value for Money: The last-gen model of Dominar was available at INR 1.63 lakh while the new model carries an ex-showroom price tag of INR 1.90 lakh. The prices mentioned here are ex-showroom Delhi. In comparison to the old model, the new Dominar comes with a more powerful DOHC engine, updated instrument console, front USD forks, and new double-barrel exhaust. This makes the new Dominar a very good value-for-money bike and it easily beats other bikes in its segment when it comes to the pricing.

Cons of New Dominar 400

1) Small Fuel Tank: The motorcycle carries loads of power but it won’t take a long distance for the rider to stop for a refill on Bajaj Dominar 400. The 13-litre fuel tank will not be able to provide 400+ kilometres before the bike runs out of fuel. Bajaj should have kept it close to 17-18 litres for much better long ride experience.

2) Heavy: Bajaj Dominar 400 is too heavy at 184kg, due to which it might not be an easy job to manoeuvre it on the city roads under high traffic riding conditions. Bajaj should have tried to make it lighter by 8-10kgs by using premium and lightweight components. But high weight, on the other hand, makes it more stable on the highway.

3) Limited Color Options: The new model of the Dominar 400 is available in just 2 shades: Auroral Green and Vine Black. It is expected that Bajaj will launch more colours in the coming months, but at present, a lot of buyers are going to miss the White, Blue, and Red colour options that were available in 2018.
