BMW Motorrad recently launched the production version of HP4 Race superbike in USA for $78,000. Limited to just 750 units for the global market, the intense carbon fiber use on the HP4 Race helps it weigh just 146 kg (dry). The motorcycle is good for 215 HP @ 13,900 rpm and 120 Nm @ 10,000 rpm. BMW HP4 Race is expected to be priced around INR 1 Crore (ex-showroom). The top speed of the bike is around 330 kmph.
BMW HP4 Race comes with a race spec 6-speed gearbox while its engine limiter cuts off at 14,500 rpm. Even after being so low in its overall weight, electronic features like dynamic traction control, wheelie control, launch control and pit lane limiter are present on the motorcycle. The carbon fiber main frame weighs just 7.8 kg, made completely out of carbon fiber and helped BMW lose a lot of weight by keeping its rigidity alive.
Wheels on the HP4 Race are even made out of carbon fiber. Every component on the motorcycle flaunts it premium appeal. The front suspension is Ohlins FGR 300 USD forks while rear is an Ohlins TTX 36 GP monoshock. Brembo GP4 PR calipers with racing steel 320 mm dual disc are at braking duties on the front while the rear uses a 220mm single disc brake. BMW HP4 comes with an all aluminum fuel tank and comes painted in BMW Motorsports shade.
The motorcycle in competition includes Ducati Superleggera as it is the only other bike with carbon fiber components. It even carries around the same wet weight while BMW offers Akrapovic race spec exhaust on its new motorcycle. Another rival is the most powerful production motorcycle, the Kawasaki Ninja H2R.
