Brand-Wise 2-Wheeler Sales Report (August 2017)

August 2017 brought variable sales trend for two wheeler segment in India. While some registered high numbers by posting impressive growth, few of the bestsellers went down from their existing numbers and faced lot of criticism for their under-performing products.

Brand-Wise 2-Wheeler Sales Report (August 2017)
1) Hero MotoCorp: 6,61,490 Units
2) Honda 2-Wheelers: 5,86,237 Units
3) TVS: 2,70,544 Units
4) Bajaj+KTM: 1,71,664 Units
5) Yamaha: 77,887 Units
6) Royal Enfield: 66,872 Units
7) Suzuki: 47,745 Units
8) Piaggio+Aprilia: 6,767 Units
9) Mahindra 2-Wheelers: 1,369 Units
10) Harley-Davidson: 283 Units
11) Kawasaki: 149 Units
12) Triumph: 55 Units

In total, two wheeler sales for August 2017 stood at 18,91,062 and saw 14.69% of increase in YoY growth. Hero Moto Corp was first with 6,61,490 units while Honda followed close with 5,86,237 units. If most reports are to be believed, Honda is now second Hero and will focus completely on volumes to attain the number one spot.

TVS Motors got the third position for August 2017, selling 2,70,544 units and registering 13.21% growth from the same month last year. Bajaj Auto saw a decline of 1.75% in its sales, getting just 1,71,664 units in August 2017 (including KTM). Bajaj was the last brand to cross 1 lakh sales mark as Yamaha stood fifth with 77,887 units within the same period.

Still, the personal brand growth was just 4.03%, much lower than the 22.17% growth of Royal Enfield with 66,872 units. If the same trend continues, Honda may soon overtake Hero and the same is even true for Royal Enfield overtaking Yamaha in the coming months. Suzuki is another rising star that bags the seventh position with 47,745 units, registering second largest growth of 49.65 percent from the same month last year.

Piaggio and its sister brands got 6,767 units, making them the biggest gainer with 189.19% of growth. Soon after we move to the ninth position, Mahindra seems to be in total loss with just 1,369 units for August 2017, claiming 59.57% of downfall from August 2016.

Harley Davidson stood tenth with 283 units of sale while eleventh and twelfth spot was bagged by Kawasaki and Triumph respectively with just 149 and 55 units respectively. This list currently misses on Benelli and UM as these 2 are potential brands that could come above the last mentioned brands in this list.
