Hero Electric has recently showcased its new range of products at the Auto Expo 2020. The brand has also revealed the much-anticipated AE-47 electric motorcycle that can be considered as the first-ever premium product by the homegrown electric vehicle manufacturer. Though it will not be entirely manufactured in India as Hero Electric has made an alliance with overseas partners for the designing part as well as for sourcing the components.
Mr Naveen Munjal, MD, Hero Electric said – “This is positioned as a slightly premium product from our portfolio, and while we will continue to focus on mass-market electric vehicles, the AE-47 is a product which existing customers can aspire to upgrade to. It is a high-performance electric motorcycle and has a top speed of close to 100 kmph, and it’s a product which is premium and aspirational. Considering the strength of our network, we have lots of hopes for our new product range”.
The all-electric AE-47 is powered by a 4kW electric motor while the company-claimed top speed of the motorcycle stands at 85kmph. It comes with a lightweight portable 48V/3.5kWh battery that can be fully charged in 4 hours. The AE-47 has two ride modes – Eco Mode and Power Mode. The estimated range of the electric bike in Eco mode is 160km whereas it has a range of 85km in Power mode on a single charge. The Hero Electric AE-47 has a claimed acceleration figure of 0-60kmph in 9 seconds.
In terms of features, the bike gets an all-digital instrument console, a mobile charger, walk-assist and reverse feature. The e-bike also supports smartphone integration via a mobile phone app that features GPS, GPRS, real-time tracking and geo-fencing. Hero Electric is expected to launch the AE-47 in India later this year while we can expect it to get a price tag of around INR 1.25 lakh to 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
