Hero Karizma R, Hero Hunk & Hero Xtreme Discontinued
Hero MotoCorp recently discontinued its three premium products namely Xtreme, Karizma R and Hunk from the Indian lineup. BS4 emission norms were imposed from April 1, 2017 and these two being slow sellers were not updated to the next generation product range.
They were the slowest selling products with only three digit sales coming annually into the Karizma range. Also, Hero was not even offering any freebies or discount on both of these from last few months to give a last boost of sale before discontinuation.
Hero Karizma R was powered by a 223 cc, single cylinder engine producing 19.2 BHP at 7500 rpm and 19.35 Nm at 6000 rpm. The engine was carried forward from the old generation of Karizma but tuned to get more performance out of the same.
This led to a decrease in refinement while even the design was criticized for being overdone and aged. The success was lost and even the remaining fans joined the Pulsar 220F club for getting more out of the same engine size. Karizma R was priced around INR 84,780 (ex-showroom).
Hero Hunk and Xtreme, on the other hand, were once superhit products with muscular design and attractive performance. Hero even passed on the more power engine tune from Xtreme Sports for getting more fans into this club.
The 149.2 cc engine was good for 15.6 PS and 13.5 Nm of torque. The engine came with a 5-speed gearbox while rear disc was even offered in a higher spec variant. Hero motorcycles are sold mostly in the 100-125 cc segment and above that, the numbers start falling down dramatically.
The current lineup of motorcycles include Karizma ZMR, Xtreme Sports, Achiever, Glamour, Splendor, Passion and HF Deluxe. Out of all these, the Karizma ZMR may get discontinued as the price is not shown on the official website.
The lineup is now clean from slow selling models of Splendor and Passion series. They recently discontinued Splendor Pro Cafe Racer, Passion Pro TR, and HF Dawn. The scooters have been updated with new graphics as the lineup now has Pleasure, Duet and Maestro Edge. Hero now has 10 models with most variants falling under Splendor and Glamour brand name.
