1. Based on the “Light Weight Super Sports Concept”
The true bike enthusiasts must not have forgotten that CBR250RR is basically based on the concept which was showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2015. After a few rendered images and teaser videos, it was finally confirmed that the company is going to launch this as a production model.
CBR250RR has been unveiled in Indonesia recently (July 25, 2016) and will be produced there itself and begin its sales by 2016 end.
2. Twin Cylinder Engine
All of us know why Honda CBR250RR is being much talked about. It is because of the all-new twin-cylinder motor it carries. The new power-plant will be an entry-level offering and has been developed as per the A2 licensing in Europe. It is a liquid-cooled, 8-valve, 2-cylinder motor with a high revving characteristic to deliver expected power of 35-38 Bhp, expected torque of 26-29 Nm, and will be mated to a 6-speed transmission. The engine rpm redline of CBR250RR is 14,000 rpm!!
The new Honda CBR250RR will be equipped with a first in category Throttle by Wire (TBW) system with three separate maps.
The most remarkable and fascinating feature of the new Honda CBR250RR is the first in segment 3 RIDE MODES – Comfort, Sport and Sport+. Adding on, it features an all-digital instrument console, optional ABS for Asian markets and standard ABS for European markets, LED headlight, slipper clutch and DRL.
Honda CBR250RR has also been equipped with ride-by-wire technology which is expected to deliver a crisper throttle response.
4. Technically Sound
The Honda CBR250RR will feature a new steel truss frame. The aluminium gull-type swing-arm has been designed in a way to accommodate the exhaust without affecting the clearance to give the rider a better lean angle. Honda has designed the CBR250RR with beefy gold finished USD forks at front and 5-step pre-load adjustable mono-shock unit at the back to efficiently handle suspension responsibilities. The braking duties will be done by large 310 mm dia single petal disc brake at front and a 240 mm dia disc brake at the rear.
The bike is expected to hit a top speed of 180+ kmph and have high performance figures and a good mileage.
The Honda CBR250RR is priced at IDR 70 million (INR 3.58 lakhs). If launched in India which is unsure of now, then it will be priced at Rs 3.50-3.75 lakh. The bike will be launched in three exciting shades:
Honda Red Racing, Matt Gun Powder Black and Anchor Grey Metallic
6. Rivals
Well, with all new features, twin cylinder, riding modes, double-barrel exhaust, throttle-by-wire technology that too at a decent price, Honda CBR250RR is definitely going to have many rivals. In the international markets, it is going to be a tough competition for Kawasaki Ninja 250, KTM RC 390, Hyosung GT250R and Yamaha R25.
The bike is expected to give a big competition to all these bikes with its amazing features.
This is a big question and a big mystery for now. Honda is working on its larger 300cc displacement motorcycle as being rumoured. Moreover, we have bikes like Yamaha R3, KTM RC 390 and Kawasaki Ninja 300 in Indian market, so we can expect Honda to come up with its larger displacement 300RR bike rather than the 250RR.
In case, Honda plans to launch the CBR250RR, it will be come through the CKD route.
