Honda X-ADV was recently patented by HMSI in India. The scooter is filled with touring and adventure DNA, making it one of its kind product for India after a long time. Filing a patent in India also hints at Honda’s plan to use their ‘one new product’ remark for something unusual this time.
It was first seen at 2016 EICMA and went on sale later in select markets. This comes as a surprise at times when buyers were looking into entry level performance products like CBR150R and CBR300R. It can also be called as a crossover product as some elements represent an Africa Twin for sure.
X-ADV is powered by a 745cc, twin cylinder engine producing 54 BHP at 6250 rpm and 68 Nm at 4750 rpm. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed DCT that offers three riding modes. First two are drive and sport while third is full manual mode.
These features make it even more similar to Honda Africa Twin in terms of equipment. Not just X-ADV, Honda had earlier patented XRE 300 and Rebel 300 in India. These two were expected to share engine with much expected Honda CBR300R but unfortunately, none of them made into India this year.
Patent filing does not always mean a product will enter India for sure as Honda has tested several products in last few years that never existed in the Indian lineup. Still, fans have a lot of hope from Honda as they are known for their reliability loaded options that can last decades in some hands.
Honda X-ADV may not target a large market share for them but getting almost bike sized scooter with capability equal to an adventure bike will be a unique option for Indian fans. X-ADV uses 17 inch front wheel with spokes at both ends for better off-road ride quality.
