The new Honda CBR150R ABS was launched last year in Indonesia, hinting that the product seems ready for the launch in India this year. However, the launch feels uncertain as Honda has revealed no plans to work on premium lightweight products for the country.
At present, the brand’s focus is on volume-generating products like the Activa and CB Shine series. We feel that Honda must bring the new CBR150R to compete with the R15 V3 in India. Yamaha is posting huge sales figures every month proving that buyers in India do have an interest in buying a premium and expensive 150cc bike.
As the government made ABS mandatory for bikes above 150cc displacement from April 1, 2018, the plans for the youngest CBR were on hold due to non-availability of dual channel ABS last year. However, Honda offers dual-channel ABS on CBR250R and single-channel unit on the Hornet. Still, rather than calibrating the unit to match the disc brake sizes on the CBR150R with the old design, it seems effective for the brand to bring the entire kit here and localize the new model in India.
CBR150R ABS is now available in Indonesia in Matte Black, Victory Black Red, Honda Racing Red, and the popular MotoGP Edition. The motorcycle comes with an impressive windscreen, sharp front headlight design, balanced fairing, split seat, and black exhaust. The MotoGP Edition comes with orange alloy wheels while all other shades feature black wheels as standard. The ABS ring is clearly seen on the front brake, with Honda using the ABS sticker on the front fender for further confirmation. The 150cc, single cylinder engine on the bike is good for 17.1 HP of maximum power and 14.4 NM of torque.
The motorcycle also features emergency brake warning which activates hazard lights in tough situations. The launch of CBR in India will pose a direct threat to Yamaha R15 V3, which has stayed undisputed from the first day of its launch. The pricing for the new CBR150R will stay under INR 1.40 lakh (if launched), leaving a chance for no special variant for the lightweight racer for India.
