Indian Motorcycles to start assembling bikes in India

Indian Motorcycles is planning to bring few of its existing models through the CKD route, cleanly reducing the amount of taxes that are being currently charged on each motorcycle. This would be a welcome move as most of the bikes on the Indian lineup are expensive when compared to the same segment motorcycle from other manufacturers like Harley Davidson. The brand has been struggling to keep up with the competition.

Polaris, the parent group that operates Indian motorcycles is readying new strategies and planning to expand its dealership network for more presence around the country. Lowering of prices and logistical costs would help the brand place their products at an even logical place whereas expansion in dealership network will improve the number of footprints for the manufacturer. They can use the same JV’s Jaipur plant for local assembly.

The same facility saw an investment of INR 350 Crore and annually manufactures 60,000 units for the parent brand. The American manufacturer’s current lineup includes Scout Sixty, Scout, Chief Dark Horse, Chief Classic and Springfield in the Indian market. The engines from Indian motorcycles range between 999 cc to 1811 cc while the pricing starts from INR 11,99,000. The top spec Springfield is priced at INR 31,00,000.
