India-Bound 2019 Kawasaki Z250 Officially Unveiled

2019 Kawasaki Z250 is now officially available in Thailand for THB 1,63,000 (INR 3.50 lakh approx). The launch was announced at 2018 Thai Motor Show where fans could have the glimpse of Z400 along with the quarter-liter street machine. Both the bikes share the same design lines, getting a difference in engine displacement as the only unique factor. The Sugomi design philosophy used here is visible on almost entire 2018 lineup of Kawasaki. The fuel tank is aggressive, getting extended shrouds that are not just looking great but highly proportional. The overall body design is an eye-candy.

The front fascia flaunts sharp headlight fairing with completely black visor and visible clean lens indicators. The version seen here is finished in dual tone Black/White shade with Green highlights. The split seat is inspired from the track-specific bikes, most probably as the frame and parts are shared with the Ninja 400. The motorcycle is made for countries with lower tax on engine size smaller than 250cc but Indian market has no such compulsion, allowing Kawasaki to upgrade the Ninja 250 with Ninja 300 for more power. The launch of Ninja 400 further took the power benchmark up for the market.

Kawasaki can either upgrade the existing Z250 or bring the bigger Z400 in the same skin and localize both the 400cc bikes for better pricing. The former will allow them compete in a unique segment while latter will rival Duke 390 and upcoming Yamaha MT-03 directly. The upgrade seen here comes with dual channel ABS as standard. The feature is actually missing from the current generation model on sale in India.

The 2019 model of Kawasaki Z250 is powered by a 249cc, parallel-twin cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It generates maximum power of 38.2 PS with maximum torque of 23.5 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The console is also shared with the bigger Z-series sibling while disc brake remains single at each end. Kawasaki is improving localization to make all products competitive in India. At present, the last-gen model of Z250 is available in India with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 3.08 lakh.
