Video: Kawasaki Electric Motorcycle Concept Officially Unveiled

The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Kawasaki has officially unveiled its electric motorcycle concept which is inspired from the Ninja series in the brand’s portfolio. Kawasaki has showcased the prototype of its electric concept at the EICMA 2019 a few days back while the officially released video of the electric motorcycle gives us a clear insight into what to expect from the powerful EV.

The video features a Ninja-inspired motorcycle equipped with an electric powertrain being tested on the track. The video explains to the audience how the brand’s R&D team will be making use of the motorcycle’s underlying electric powertrain for its future projects. The motorcycle does seem to be a production-ready variant in the video though, the brand has not yet revealed the expected launch details of its first-ever electric motorcycle.

The fully-faired Kawasaki Ninja-inspired outlook has been awarded to the EV concept while at the same time, the brand has equipped it with a twin-pod headlight assembly which has been further covered with a track tape to avoid getting the front glass break in case of a fall.

The brand has also retained the front blinkers of the motorcycle at the same position as seen on the Ninja 300 while the use of carbon fibre detailing is perfect for offering the sportbike a premium look. The Kawasaki electric motorcycle further retains the similar handlebar unit in addition to getting the same rear profile as well as the split seat design.

Though being an electric motorcycle, the concept showcased at the event was mated to a four-speed transmission and further uses a chain final drive instead of using a conventional belt. The concept bike is equipped with an all-digital instrument console while the brand has not yet revealed the exact specifications of the battery and the motor.

Commenting on the motor equipped on the Kawasaki electric motorcycle, Yoshimoto Matsuda, Senior Manager, Innovative Department, Research & Development Division, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, stated:

“The electric motorcycle you see here features one of the next-generation power units that, along with supercharged engines, we have been working on since the early 2000s. Of course, even our electric motorcycles are developed according to our RIDEOLOGY development philosophy. They will still be fun to control, exciting, and a reflection of Kawasaki’s passion. We have been thoroughly studying and patenting features ranging from packaging and chassis geometry to transmission and thumb brake-activated energy recovery systems.”
