Kawasaki W800 would be the first retro modern machine from the manufacturer to enter the Indian automobile market. One unit of the same has been imported from Japan while being smaller than 800cc, it needs compulsory homologation in India. The classic beauty will be the best option for those who always wished to upgrade from their legendary Yamaha RD350 but were unable to do so due to lack of options in the country.
The demand for classic machines with modern technology has been growing in past times, benefits being directly enjoyed by Triumph Bonneville and Ducati Scrambler range. Currently, every Kawasaki bike under 800cc is assembled in India, making more chances of the bike being brought down as through the CKD route. This will again help both the brand and buyer justify their sides on the pricing part.
Kawasaki planning to launch the W800 in India
Kawasaki W800 is powered by a 773 cc, twin cylinder motor producing 47 BHP and 60 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox while uses regular 39 mm telescopic forks for the front and twin shocks for the rear suspension. The motorcycle lacks the charm when it comes to braking components, providing just 300 mm disc with dual-piston calipers at the front and 160 mm of drum brake at the rear. It weighs 217 kg while provides a decent 790 mm of seat height to the riders.
W800 is a strict rival for Bonneville and Street Twin range of Triumph motorcycles while it use of least equipment may not bring such big price tag for the same. It may be priced in the range of Harley Davidson Street 750 (Around INR 5 lakhs), making it the highest displacement motorcycle with the lowest available price for the country. When all the specs for this bike are considered at once, riding fast seems as an odd job for the W800.
