Kawasaki Z900RS has been officially launched in India with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 15.30 Lakh. Surprisingly, Z900 is priced at INR 7.68 Lakh (Ex-showroom India), making Z900RS expensive by INR 7.62 lakh!
The reason behind this shocking price tag for Z900RS is that it has been brought to India as a CBU unit and Z900 is being imported from Thailand under the free trade agreement. The Indian government recently slashed the import duty on CBU motorcycles by 25%.
So, we can expect the price of Z900RS to drop in coming days. But still Kawasaki won’t be able to justify the price tag of Z900RS in India. We were expecting the RS version to be priced around INR 8.50 lakh or maximum INR 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
Blending classic design lines with modern engine technology helped Kawasaki achieve something that is far more exciting than machines built few decades back. Z900RS is powered by the same 948cc, four cylinder engine as Z900 but practically, it comes with a different tune that suits more riders who will opt for the RS version.
The engine is good for 111 HP at 8500 rpm and 98.5 Nm at just 6500 rpm. This makes it much more powerful in real world driving conditions. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Kawasaki has used a four into one exhaust system, that too finished in chrome, on the new motorcycle.
The headlight used here looks conventional but carries LED bulbs in such a way that it looks more like a halogen headlight. Not just that, the alloy wheels on Kawasaki Z900 RS are spoke inspired and helps the bike feel more from the 1970’s than the present year.
Kawasaki discontinued the popular W800 and Z900 RS could help buyers move into the same direction with an even more powerful option. It reminds everyone of the legendary Kawasaki Z1 and thus, this helps it gain a strong fan following from the first day of its unveil.
Instrument console used on Z900 RS is exclusive and offer twin pod analogue speedometer and tachometer. In between, one can find a large TFT that handles all other values like trip-meter, odometer and range. Keeping the retro essence in mind, the center screen can be turned off for a pure needle indicated ride experience.
