As per the latest details available, KTM is planning to launch new 490cc 2-cylinder motorcycles in the Indian markets by the end of 2022 or in early 2023. The same will be manufactured in India with the help of Bajaj Auto. KTM is currently struggling to get one of the three positions among the top sportbike brands in the world.
The first product under the new series can fall between any of the three segments, but the chances of a Duke streetfighter are higher. The most-selling machine from KTM, Duke is known for its light frame and class-leading power output.
KTM RC series offer full-faired, track-specific performance while the Adventure series comes with a dual-purpose design and all-terrain usability. The new 490cc motorcycles will bring a completely new segment into India.
Benelli recently also launched a few products falling in the same segment, carrying a 2-cylinder 499cc engine and getting middleweight segment placement. KTM will be bringing multiple variants from the same platform, helping them cut costs and increase the buyer base for specific body types.
Basically, motorcycles are divided into five different types: street, sport, dual-purpose, cruiser and touring. KTM is best known for the first three types and the 490cc platform will definitely spawn three motorcycles like the 390 series. They even have multiple body types for their 1290 series while the 890 series is yet to bring more than just a streetfighter and an adventure motorcycle.
KTM has plans to keep the focus on single and twin-cylinder motorcycles for the coming years. They have seen the amount of growth in the 500cc-800cc segment in India and other developing markets and wish to contribute more for the performance lovers.
The KTM 890 Duke R is a great way to help fans achieve an enhanced street riding experience while the new 490cc platform could result in Duke 490, RC 490, and even Adventure 490 at unbelievable prices. The current KTM range of bikes includes Duke 125, Duke 200, Duke 250, Duke 390, RC 125, RC 200, RC 390, 250 Adventure, and 390 Adventure in India.
