According to the recent reports, KTM is working on five new 490 series twin-cylinder motorcycles. The brand had earlier revealed that their 490cc twin-cylinder engine had been under the works in India and will be manufactured by Bajaj Auto. The brand’s upcoming 490 series is expected to include the below-mentioned motorcycles.
Out of the above-listed motorcycles, KTM is expected to launch the 490 Duke, RC 490, and the 490 Adventure in the Indian market next year.
As per the reports, the KTM RC 490, Duke 490 and 490 Adventure motorcycles will feature the same trellis frame used on the current-gen 390 series bikes while they will be getting minor tweaks to accommodate larger engines.
To keep the development cost under check, the brand plans on equipping the motorcycles with the same styling cues as well as other components as seen in the single-cylinder variants of the 2020 lineup. One can expect the motorcycles with a twin-cylinder engine to feature the same TFT display as well as LED headlight setup.
The KTM 490 Supermoto as well as Enduro variants, on the other hand, are expected to get a redesigned chassis when compared to the current-gen variants while getting disc brakes at either end with dual-channel ABS as standard.
When compared to the Duke 490 and RC 490, the other three Adventure, Supermoto, and Enduro motorcycles will get a longer wheel-travel while the wheel size will also vary depending on their characteristics.
The KTM 490 series will feature a 490cc, parallel twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 8-valve, DOHC engine that will be capable of generating the same performance values on all the upcoming bikes though the gear ratios and engine mapping will vary on different variants.
One can expect the 490cc twin-cylinder engine to be capable of offering a maximum power ranging between 55HP-60HP. The engine will be further paired to 6-speed transmission mated to a slipper clutch. More details on the upcoming 490cc KTM motorcycles are expected to be revealed by the end of this year.
