KTM has shocked everyone by unveiling the bigger and better version of the 790 Duke at the EICMA 2019. Being promoted as the ‘Super Scalpel’, the new KTM 890 Duke R is powered by an 890cc 2-cylinder, 4-stroke, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine. It is capable to generate a maximum power of 121HP @ 9250 rpm and a peak torque of 99Nm @ 7750 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
In terms of design, the 890 Duke R looks more or less similar to the recently-launched 790 Duke. As per the latest details available, KTM will replace the 790 Duke with the 890 Duke R in the Indian market sometime in the next year with an ex-showroom price tag of around INR 9 lakhs.
According to the reports, the less-powerful 790 Duke is affecting the popularity of the motorcycle brand ever since the introduction of the more powerful Kawasaki Z900, Ducati Monster 821, and Triumph Street Triple RS. To stay ahead in the game, KTM has revealed the 890 Duke R with more power and a better power-to-weight ratio.
Like the 790 Duke, the new KTM 890 Duke R is also equipped with an all-digital instrument console with KTM MyRide. In terms of braking, the street motorcycle is equipped with a 320mm front disc brake and a 240mm rear disc brake, which are further mated to a 2-channel Bosch 9.1 MP ABS unit, including Cornering ABS and Supermoto Mode (disengegable).
The KTM 890 Duke R is also equipped with traction control with lean angle sensitivity, 3 riding modes and an optional track mode. In terms of dimensions, the seat height of the motorcycle is 834mm whereas the ground clearance stands at 206mm. The fuel tank capacity is 14-litres while the 890 Duke R weighs 166kgs.
