Lightning Strike is the next revolutionary product from the American electric motorcycle manufacturer. The brand was selling LS-218 from last one decade and undoubtedly, the high-performance electric machine had a huge price tag associated with its name. This time, the price tag for Strike superbike is quite nominal at $13,000 (approx INR 9 lakh, direct conversion). The Strike Carbon is priced at a higher point, leaving the buyer with an ex-showroom price tag of $20,000 (INR 13.84 lakh approx). The use of carbon fiber for a lightweight overall feel results in the price increase.
Lightning Strike is powered by a liquid-cooled, AC induction motor producing 90 HP of power and 244 Nm of torque. The 10 kWh battery on the motorcycle is good for 110-160 km of range, depending upon various factors that affect all electric products as well. The faired profile of the motorcycle brings a reduction in aerodynamic efficiency wastage. The basic two variants on the Lightning Strike are available with standard charging while the Carbon version comes with a fast charger with 150 km of range in just 20 minutes. The battery is bigger on the most expensive version and thus, a total range of 240-320 kilometres is achieved.
The middle variant comes with a decent battery range of 190-240 km. The motorcycle will first arrive in the US market as production for the same will start in July 2019. The brand will expand to the European market later this year. The basic Strike comes with a weight of 206 kg, making it quite competitive in comparison to the regular superbikes of its size. The weight of the battery goes up with increasing size and number of technologies on offer. The launch for India is uncertain at the moment as in the first phase of electrification, Indian startups are expected to arrive with an impressive list of products for the country.
