Meet NERA: The World’s 1st Fully 3D Printed & Functional e-Motorcycle

BigRep and NOWLAB have made an electric motorcycle named NERA completely by 3D printing the parts. The wires running through the system are excluded while tires, rims, seat, front suspension forks, and frame were made in a 3D printer. The improvement in technology resulted in airless tires and new sensors that helped the designers explore new possibilities in visual and practical usage. As most manufacturers are betting big on the future of 3D printing in the automotive market, increasing the number of parts through the technology means they are moving in the right direction. The possibilities are truly unlimited in all senses.

NERA

The motorcycle here has unique wheel design, almost empty center section and futuristic panels that extend equally forward and backward. The 3D printed motorcycle is a clear demonstration of the future of machines. Rather than going to the OEM and asking for a part, or even waiting for months to receive the same, future users may just need the design from the manufacturer and print the same at home or any nearby 3D printing store. The NERA is available with fork-less steering and many other segment-first features that are not yet possible through regular motorcycle manufacturing techniques.

The official video by NOWLAB shows a rider on the NERA, clearing the fact that the prototype is working and can be considered as a proof of 3D printing power. The niche brands for suspension, brakes and other component manufacturing may also adapt to this technology to stay in the mainstream competition. The bikes have a certain level of human effort in manufacturing for most brands while others completely rely on human excellence for the production of a limited number of units. It is yet to be seen how those brands will react to the presence of NERA and other such products with competitive presence and higher than ever possibilities.
