Mysore, Karnataka: Non-ISI Helmets Seized – Mysore city police has once again taken a bold step by confiscating non-ISI and half-face helmets as they were labelled ‘not for your head’ under this initiative. We all know that helmet is the most important safety gear when riding a two wheeler.
Maximum number of fatalities are caused due to head injuries and riders still ignore this basic safety need in India. After getting their non-ISI helmets seized, riders were given information about the importance of ISI certified helmets and their proper use. The images here show how people use cap style helmets that are good for nothing when it comes to a crash.
These helmets do not comply with ISI directed minimum safety requirements, which in other words means total transfer of energy into the head at time of crash. When an ISI certified helmet comes into the same situation, it saves the head with partial destruction of its own components.
Mysore Police was not just tracking down the riders but also have plans to raid roadside places where these helmets are sold at dirt cheap prices. All of them will be destroyed after submitting them to the traffic police station. This is just the start as they have plans to speed up this process in coming weeks.
Helmets that are ISI certified start well under INR 1000. These helmets are highly comfortable, lightweight and made specially by keeping city rides under consideration. Brands like Studds, Vega and Steelbird dominate this segment with products that start as low as INR 850.
Riders can choose from open face (half face are just caps, open face have considerably more protection), full face and hybrid helmets around this price range. These last much longer than those non-ISI helmets and have important features like customizable visor, washable interiors, certified chin straps and much more.
