Project Wheelie King: Japanese Rider Masaru Abe Sets 500 kms Wheelie World Record

Japanese Rider Masaru Abe recently broke the existing world record for wheelie and drove 500 kilometers on his Yamaha Jog scooter on one wheel. It took him more than 13 hours as he drove continuously at a speed around 40 kmph. The rider not even stopped once in all this time and rode on a closed track for safety purposes.

The previous record was 331 kms made in 1991 by Yasuyuki Kudo and it was achieved in 8 hours 18 minutes. Masaru Abe rode for 13 hours to break this record and went forward to claim his very own world record of 500 kms wheelie on a scooter and he also named this event as Project Wheelie King.

At first, the planned wheelie was for 600 kilometers but intense pain after 500 kilometers forced Abe to stop after 13 hours. The location for this stunt was Kawaguchi Aut Race track in Saitama, Japan. Yamaha Jog was fitted with an extra fuel reservoir while changes were even made to its rear to fix a backrest for the rider’s ease. The first two hours resulted in back pain which was initially tackled by pain killers. It was one of the most insane two wheeled act around the world.

Masaru Abe said: “I thought if I was going to try and break the record, then I would have to post unattainable numbers that would leave people totally speechless. That was the most pain I’ve ever felt. Both of my arms were numb from the pain and I had lost feeling in them. My vision was blurred. I was only partially conscious. I was completely dehydrated. I’d never experienced that before.”
