The bike is specifically designed for the harsh terrain and Rahul took on this journey solo, just to understand the bike better. The group of the riders caught up in Chandigarh and stayed there for a night. Rahul went to see the famous Rock Garden which is exceptionally famous for its beauty and all head to toe hand made nature.
The bike was expected to cover manageable distance and it did so easily, the first 250 kms were a breeze. The road from the highway to the hills is where the actual journey began. The first flat tyre was experienced somewhat near the Manali highway. The bike was rather good at handling with a flat tyre and he allowed it to stop on its own without pushing much brakes which indeed is a good way to avoid bike damage and even an accident.
After getting the tyre fixed, he and the crew member Shawn went ahead towards the Manali road but forgot to fill up. Being a super bike with awesome mileage, it did cover 140 kms easily without much fuel. After filling up they met with the remaining crew and spend the night in a hotel in Manali. Beyond Manali road is where the actual bike terror starts.
He covered most of the 150 kms with ease enjoying the breathtaking view. The way down from Rohtang pass was the first sight of horror he experienced. The road was damaged with no tarmac which made the handling of the bike hard on the wrists and the tyres were incapable of providing much balance on that road. The further distance was covered solely with the help of music being sung by his roommate which made him ignore the worst road conditions.
From the way above Tandi, the bike was in full throttle as the road was smooth which actually proves that it is an exceptional bike. The first water crossing was not that much dangerous but it was followed by a little accident which led to an injury in his right ankle. He then met with Nick, Dave and Alex which are the UK guys and are known to have some pretty good biking experience. Next day was the most epic day as he had to cross the largest river body but the Royal Enfield Mechanics made it rather easy.
They even had to stop for a long time due to some landslide some kilometers away from Tandi. The most adventurous part began when the water body was crossed without any helmet and had the most heartening experience of brotherhood of riders when someone offered him his own helmet. The next phase of the journey was a mix between good and worst.
He met with an accident and injured himself and the bike’s handles were screwed but the crew took care of him and he completed the remaining journey to Leh in the crew car. The overall trip was exceptionally mesmerizing and in the literal sense breathtaking too and the Royal Enfield was a partner no one could compete with.
