The 2020 BS6 Royal Enfield Himalayan adventure motorcycle has been spotted testing for the first time. Coming to the major changes, the next-gen model of the Himalayan is equipped with a BS6-compliant single-cylinder fuel-injected engine, a 2-channel switchable ABS unit, a hazard light switch, chrome-finish spoke wheels and a 19-inch 100-section front tyre. The test mule has been spotted with MRF Meteor tyres which are expected to improve the overall grip levels when riding off-road.
In comparison, the current-gen BS4 model is equipped with a non-switchable ABS unit and a 21-inch 90-section front tyre with black spoke wheel. At present, the RE Himalayan is available in three colours: Granite, Snow, and the Sleet Edition. In addition to these three colour options, the 2020 BS6 Royal Enfield Himalayan will be available to the customers in additional “Gravel Grey” colour variant, which is a combination of matte grey with blacked-out fenders as well as the fuel tank. In addition to this, the brand will be offering the 2020 model of the motorcycle in “Rock Red” and “Lake Blue” colour variants.
The “Rock Red” colour option will feature a bright glossy red fuel tank while the “Lake Blue” will feature a dual-tone combination of glossy blue and white on the fuel tank. In addition to this, the brand has also equipped the red and blue colour variants with matching frame guards as well as grab rails. The new colour options of the Royal Enfield Himalayan were recently showcased at EICMA auto show in November 2019.
The 2020 BS6 Royal Enfield Himalayan is equipped with the same instrument cluster and switchgear though the bike features two extra buttons. One of them is to located on the console to control the switchable ABS while the second button is located at the right side of the handlebar to turn on/off the hazard lights.
Technically, there are no details available regarding the power and torque figures of the updated BS6-compliant engine. For reference, powering the current-gen Royal Enfield Himalayan is a BS4-compliant 411cc, single-cylinder engine that is capable to generate a maximum power of 24.5HP @ 6500 rpm and a peak torque of 32Nm @ 4250-4500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
The 2020 BS6 Royal Enfield Himalayan adventure motorcycle is expected to be launched in the coming months with an expected ex-showroom price tag of around INR 2 lakh.
