The Royal Enfield Himalayan 411, one of the country’s most popular all-terrain bikes, is set to be replaced by a more powerful 450cc model. The new Himalayan will be more capable on the highway and have more torque for off-road use. The launch is expected to take place in early 2023.
Recently, Royal Enfield and their MD shared an intriguing new video on their Instagram accounts. At first glance, it appears to be a Himalayan river crossing in the Ladakh region. It does not take long to realise that the Himalayan is not currently for sale. But there’s something else, the video caption reads Testing 1, 2, 3.
This is the first official teaser for the upcoming new Himalayan, known colloquially as the Himalayan 450. Though the teaser only shows the front LED headlight, previous test mules seen in full camouflage revealed design changes. The headlamp cowl, windshield, front beak, fuel tank, and side panels have all been modified. In comparison to the current model, the Himalayan 450 has a stubbier exhaust.
Front and rear luggage racks, for example, will be essentially the same. There may be some minor variations due to the bike’s profile. In terms of functionality, luggage racks could be strengthened to increase load-carrying capacity. The step-up split seats and rear tail section look familiar.
The ride ergonomics appear to be the same, despite possible changes to the handlebar and footpeg positioning. It’s a little difficult for designers to balance the needs of highway cruising and off-road tracks on an all-terrain bike. Himalayan has continuously improved over the years, and the new 450cc model should provide even more comfort.
While the new Himalayan retains its predecessor’s basic shape, several changes give the bike a distinct identity. It has now been officially teased that it will be released next year.
