Royal Enfield has announced the country’s first-ever vintage track-racing initiative for two-wheelers. The first edition of the 2021 Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup, based on the Continental GT 650, will kick off in October. Registration for the track-race competition is already open from 22 September and will remain available until the end of the month. The 2021 Continental GT Cup will be held at the JK National Racing Championship in collaboration with JK Motorsports.
Furthermore, the Cup will be contested in four rounds under the auspices of the Federation of Motorsports Club of India (FMSCI) and will culminate in January 2022. Riders who wish to compete in the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup 2021 must first register and the required age to participate is above 18 years. They can do so by going to RE’s official website and following the steps. The registration procedure will question you for information like your personal information, past track riding experience, any track school you have attended, your FMSCI licence, and more.
Following the close of registrations, 100 qualified riders will be picked to participate in the Rider Selection Programme at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore from October 18 to 19. From the selected 100, the top 18 riders will be selected and promoted to the Continental GT Cup. While looking forward to the venue of the competition, the first three rounds of the competition will be hosted in October, November and December at the Kari Motor Speedway, while the final will be held in January 2022 at the Buddh International Circuit in Noida.
Royal Enfield claims that by launching the vintage track-racing project, it hopes to foster specific riding cultures in the country and open new doors to real-world track racing. The brand has also announced its intentions to launch track schools around the country following the conclusion of the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup in 2021.
