Royal Enfield Himalayan Sales Banned in Delhi Due to BS4 Emission Norms

The Royal Enfield Himalayan, the Chennai based company’s first adventure motorcycle was launched in India yesterday. However, the RE won’t be on sale in Delhi anytime soon, and that’s because Delhi government has decided not to allow sale of new two-wheelers which do not comply with Bharat Stage IV emission norms. Since, the Himalayan is BS-III compliant, it cannot be sold in Delhi.

However, Royal Enfield has declared that the bike will be made BS-IV complaint by April 2017. Till then, the bike will only be showcased in Delhi showrooms but won’t be sold. Also, the existing Royal Enfield bikes will also be made BS-IV compliant by April next year.

Commenting on this issue, the CEO and MD of Eicher motors has said: “The Royal Enfield Himalayan is registered across all states in India and will be available in a phased manner. In case of Delhi, the Himalayan, as of now is not being registered as the NGT decision came in the last minute. It is available for testing and booking. We are working with the authorities to resolve this situation along with several other manufacturers who are facing the same issue”.
